Stylish Samsung Jet 2 at Rs. 19,500

Samsung has announced its latest touchscreen handset dubbed the Jet 2 in India. The Jet 2 is an obvious successor to the "original" Jet announced last year.

If you thought the Jet 2 was a major upgrade over the previous phone, be prepared to be disappointed. The Samsung Jet 2 basically is the same old Jet with some software tweaks. The hardware, however, remains the same. The features are almost the same too. We're talking about the 3.1 inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen display, TouchWiz 2.0 UI, Wi-Fi, GPS, DNSe & SRS Sound Effect technology. The imaging bit is handled by a 5MP camera. The 800MHz processor, same as the one on the original Jet continues to do the number crunching here.

Like the previous Jet, this one too allows multitasking. Samsung's own Dolphin browser can be used to browse the World Wide Web in its full glory. It even supports multiple windows. Of course, you can also install Opera Mini and other Java based browsers if you need more options.

The new Jet doesn't even come with the updated version of Samsung's own TouchWiz UI but comes with the older version. There are other UI enhancements though which claim to provide a "superior and differentiated experience." The media gate UI, as Samsung calls it, features one finger zoom which can be used while browsing the Web, viewing photos or TXT, PDF and PPT files.

The Jet is priced at Rs. 19,500 and is now available at a Samsung dealer near you.

Nokia 5233 Launched for Rs. 7,850

Cheapest touchscreen smartphone by the company

Nokia 5233 Launched for Rs. 7,850

Nokia

has finally decided to take on the likes of the Samsung Corby and the LG Cookie -- both of which have taken the mid-range touchscreen market by storm since late 2008. The company has launched its own touchscreen handset, the Nokia 5233, which is targeted at this segment.

The 5233 is arguably the cheapest Nokia touchscreen device that you can buy in India today. The phone, priced at just Rs. 7,850 also makes it one of the cheapest smartphones you can buy today. Unlike the Corby or the Cookie, which uses proprietary operating systems, the 5233 is a full fledged smartphone running S60 Version 5. What you get for the money is the 2 megapixel camera, a 3.2-inch display, support for GPRS and EDGE, Bluetooth and Ovi Maps. The 70 MB internal dynamic memory is expandable memory up to 16GB with microSD cards. It also has a 3.5 mm audio jack. It also supports video recording at up to 640x480 pixels and up to 30 fps - which is phenomenal for a phone priced at just about Rs. 8,000.

The only thing you would miss would be support for 3G and Wi-Fi support. That is not much of a loss for the price you get this phone. The device also has a talk time of 7 hours and is available in Black and Red colors across India.
